A
LAN is a means of interconnecting PC workstations distributed around offices
within a single building or a group of buildings such as a University campus.
Alternatively it may be used to interconnect computer-based equipment distributed
around a factory or hospital complex.
The host PC upon which Sentinel Lite is running may be connected to either
an existing or a dedicated LAN to allow the remote monitoring or configuration
of a network of Sentinel controllers, or even an individual Sentinel controller.
It is not possible to connect a Sentinel controller directly to a LAN, instead
an interface must be used, the Lantronix UDS-10 device
server is used to connect the master controller of the Sentinel network
(or a single Sentinel controller) to an Ethernet LAN.
This
simplified diagram shows the connections required to use the UDS-10 device servers
with a Sentinel system.
For
a diagram showing the wiring details of the UDS-10 device server and the Sentinel
network connections see here.
