Before reading the following example you should first familiarise yourself with creating and saving a badge design. See here.

This example will take you through the process of creating a simple badge design step by step.

This is the card we will produce...
It actually consists of the following objects:

Three pictures (A, H and K)

Three pieces of text from the user data-base (B, F I and J)

One rectangle (C)

Two lines (D and E)

One user image from the user data-base (G)

Step One

Create a new badge template, see here if you are unsure of how to create one.
Step Two

It is easier to create a badge template by using the 'snap to' grid, therefore use the Configure Grid tools to setup the grid to 1mm, show the grid and enable snap to grid.

Note that on some lower-end PC configurations you may notice a slight slow down in performance whilst the grid is displayed, this is normal.
Step Three

Placing the rectangle (C) around the outside edge of the card.

Click on the draw rectangle tool (see Drawing Tools), place the mouse cursor in the top left of the badge template then press and hold the left mouse button. Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor towards the bottom right of the badge, let go of the left mouse button and the rectangle will be displayed...
Step Four

Placing the Morley logo picture (K) at the top of the card.

Click on the Place Picture tool (see Misc Tools), place the mouse cursor where you wish the top left of the picture to appear, then press and hold the left mouse button. Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor to the place where the bottom right of the picture is to appear, let go of the left mouse button and the open file dialog will be displayed...
...select the picture file that you wish to use, in this case the Morley_Logo.bmp file and press the Open button.

The Morley logo image will now be displayed on the badge image.
Step Five

Placing the blue line picture (H) at the top of the card.

Repeat the procedure in step four to place the blue bar picture to the side of the Morley logo.
Step Six

Placing the keypad picture (A) below the Morley logo.

Repeat the procedure in step four to place the keypad picture below the Morley logo...
Step Seven

Placing the user photograph (G).

Click on the Place User Image from Database tool (see Data-Base Tools), place the mouse cursor where you wish the top left of the user image to appear, then press and hold the left mouse button. Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor to the place where the bottom right of the picture is to appear, let go of the left mouse button and that's it, a shaded rectangle will be displayed, this is where the user photograph will appear on the finished badge...
Step Eight

Placing a line (D) across the badge template.

Click on the Draw Line tool (see Drawing Tools), place the mouse cursor where you wish to place the left hand side of the line, then press and hold the left mouse button. Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor to where you want to place the right hand side of the line, let go of the left mouse button and that's it, the line will be placed on the badge...

Step Nine

Placing a line (E) across the badge template.

Repeat the procedure in step eight to place the second line on the badge design...

Step Ten

Placing the users name (I) from the user data-base.

Click on the down arrow to the right of the Place User Data Field tool (see Data-Base Tools), a drop-down menu will be displayed...
...select First Name from the menu then move the mouse cursor where you wish to place the left hand side of the users first name, then press and hold the left mouse button. Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor to where you want to place the right hand side of the users first name, let go of the left mouse button and that's it, the users name will be placed on the badge...

Keep holding down the left mouse button and move the mouse so as to move the cursor to where you want to place the right hand side of the users department, let go of the left mouse button and that's it, the department will be placed on the badge...
